The Blueair 601 has three operating speeds and uses patented HEPASilent filter technology to trap airborne particulates in two ways, with mechanical and electrostatic filters.  Air is drawn in from the bottom and the sides of the machine and is then moved through the filter media which contains millions of ultrathin fibers that trap tiny particles as the air passes through.

The Blueair 601 air purifier passed laboratory tests conducted by Consumer Reports with flying colors being rated “Excellent” for both smoke and dust removal.  People with allergies and asthma report that their symptoms have been kept to a minimum because of this high-quality air filter.  One reviewer called their apartment a safe haven during high pollen days and reported that any allergy symptoms go away within 30 minutes when they use this machine.  Many people call this machine quiet and reliable.  It’s also easy to clean and replace the filters and although it is a large machine it has four wheels to make it easier to move from one room to another.  One reviewer reported that on the highest setting the Blueair 601 does such a good job of removing dust from the air that they no longer have to dust three times a week and that they now only dust their master bedroom twice a month.

This machine is not cheap but it is very effective and there are a lot of very positive reviews.  It’s so effective at removing allergens from the air that many people credit it with allowing them to sleep at night.  One of the only negative reviews that we could find for this product was from someone that bought the optional Smokestop filters.  This person stated that although the optional Smokestop filter decreased residual smoke odors from their downstairs neighbors, the Smokestop filter itself gave off an unpleasant odor.

It’s not easy to find any negative reviews of this product but one of the things that some people were a little disappointed about was the fact that this machine does not have a pre-filter which would help prevent dust buildup inside the unit in areas that are harder to clean.  A pre-filter would also help extend the life of the more expensive main filter.

Replacement filters are a little more expensive with the Blueair 501 than they are for some other air purifiers and the filters will need to be replaced twice a year.  This machine is more expensive than a lot of other air purifiers on the market but according to our research it is also far more effective so if you need a top quality air purifier that gets the job done the Blueair 501 is an excellent choice.
