The two-stage filter traps airborne particles with both mechanical and electrostatic filters. In addition to passing through a HEPA filter, incoming air moves through an enclosed ion chamber which charges the airborne particles which then cling to the filter media for more efficient air purification.

Replacement filters for the Blueair 501 air purifier are environmentally friendly. They are constructed of a nontoxic polypropylene material which is made up of millions of ultrathin fibers that trap tiny particles. The polypropylene filter media works without outgassing or letting microscopic fibers into the air. Once an old filter is discarded it will decompose into harmless carbon dioxide and water.

It’s not easy to find any negative reviews of this product but one of the things that some people were a little disappointed about was the fact that this machine does not have a pre-filter which would help prevent dust buildup inside the unit in areas that are harder to clean. A pre-filter would also help extend the life of the more expensive main filter.

Replacement filters are a little more expensive with the Blueair 501 than they are for some other air purifiers and the filters will need to be replaced twice a year. This machine is more expensive than a lot of other air purifiers on the market but according to our research it is also far more effective so if you need a top quality air purifier that gets the job done the Blueair 501 is an excellent choice.
